Church says sorry over St Bede’s College sex abuse claims

More than 50 ex-pupils of a top Catholic school have accused a former rector of sexually and mentally abusing them.

Now, the Bishop of Salford has been forced to apologise over claims that Monsignor Thomas Duggan interfered with scores of schoolboys during his time at St Bede’s College in Whalley Range, Manchester.

The Right Reverend Terence Brain has issued a statement saying he is ‘shocked and saddened’ by the complaints, which have been made by a 57-strong group.
