Child abuse victims lawyer ‘wide-ranging’ inquiry call

A solicitor representing victims of child abuse has called for an inquiry to go beyond acknowledging that the abuse took place.

The Northern Ireland Executive has agreed to hold an inquiry into institutional abuse.

A task force is being set up to liaise with government departments about what form the inquiry will take.

  1. I have just been told by one of your recommended lawyers that because the abuse I went through was from 1949-1960 I am "outside the period of legal entitlement to make a claim for compensation."
    This is a totally unacceptable state of affairs.

    Someone needs to remember that it sometimes takes a long time(often many years for a survivor of abuse to put together all of the pieces in the form of a credible report document. If the abuse happened it happened and time cannot change that fact.
    Those responsible or the organisation that empowered them to act abusively should be liable to be accountable until all cases submitted are put forward for assessment by independent adjudicators as to the facts presented.
    I have written my story. Do I now have no option but to go to the media or to a movie director in an attempt to sensationalize what happened to me in order to get some attention and perhaps payment for my written account in lieu of the compenstion to which I feel I should be entitled to obtain ?
